DCDR Richard Weiss

Division 8 Commander Cristen Gleason

Division 8 lost its leader, its mentor and its greatest champion when Cris Gleason passed from this earth on November 8, 2018. As a full-time resident of Brigantine, Cris was a member of Flotilla 8-5, and served the Auxiliary in many ways. He taught boating safety classes to hundreds of new boaters and was a valuable mentor to dozens of Auxiliary members. He was active in Surface Operations as a Coxswain, a vessel facility owner and coordinator of many operation missions including the Atlantic City Air Show. As the owner of a private aircraft, Cris also participated in the Auxiliary Air program. As a mentor, Cris was instrumental in developing a new generation of Auxiliary leaders. Every current Flotilla Commander in Division 8 can trace their growth to the guidance of Cris Gleason, either directly or indirectly. Cris was always concerned with the welfare of all the members under his purview. The measure of respect that Cris garnered in his life was clearly demonstrated by the turnout at his final departure. In addition to his family and friends, Cris was escorted from this world with an Honor Guard of Coast Guard and Coast Guard Auxiliary members.
